Well it's been awhile since I've blogged...and things have changed a bit around here!
Its been a busy few months in life and photographically for me. Here's just a little bit of what has been going on!
I was lucky enough to snag a mentoring spot with one of my favourite family documentary photographers, Kirsten Lewis. She has a photo journalistic approach to family photography that I am so drawn to. She captures the every day life, mess, craziness, flaws and all. The funny moments, the silly faces, the connections between family and loved ones. It was a challenging mentorship with much work, an overwhelming amount of information, lots of critique and growth in my personal work. I'm hoping to mentor under her again in the very near future!
But in the meantime...
I decided to embark on a 365 photography project. That means I take a photo every single day. I then edit and share that photo. Seems simple enough but since I decided to focus the project on my beautiful wee daughter its been more difficult than I thought. Trying to think of new and creative ways to document her explorations in life, which maintaining the admittedly sometimes monotonous routines of toddler-hood is daunting!
That being said, with great challenge can come great reward and though I'm not finished with the project yet, I am already feeling so happy with the progress I've made with my technical ability but also, and more importantly to me, storytelling. I enjoy taking photos of people, but what I love the very most, is taking photos ABOUT people. About the the little bits and pieces of them, that tell their story.
Every image I have taken may not be technically perfect or mind blowing, but they are all so important to me. They are little bits and pieces of my daughter's story. The story of her. My favourite story.
I certainly can't sit here and post all 200 of the images I have taken so far, but here are just a few to give you a little taste of the past 200 days.
Even going through and picking my favourites was so difficult! I could have easily posted so so many more. But...I'll leave some of them for another post!
Thanks for stopping by and catching up with me. I promise not to be gone again so long.
